Perceptions of Parenting Behavior by Adolescents: The Development of the Malaysian Parenting Behavior Inventory

We conducted a study with the aims of examining adolescents’ perceptions their mother’s and father’s parenting behavior developing new Malaysian Parenting Behavior Inventory (MPBI). In Phase One, we recruited 903 adolescents using proportionate to size sampling technique. The results exploratory factor analyses MPBI Mother Father scales revealed four underlying structures: Warmth, Monitoring, Harsh Discipline were somewhat similar those in past findings theory, Indigenous centered on religious cultural values parenting. Two, an independent sample adolescents, replicated structure Study One confirmatory analysis, resulting strong model fit estimates. conclude that has good initial psychometric properties is culturally influenced. may be useful for prevention intervention programs clinical non-clinical settings, including providing valuable information factors pertinent parent-adolescent interactions.
